In order to produce such an effect we must introduce an additional interchain packing which arises from the pair-wise local correlation of phenyl units. This is a face-to-face type packing. The second and third curves of Fig. 24 show the result of introducing such face-to-face type correlations. It should be noticed that only a very limited level of correlation (2 to 3 units) is required. 9 A-l and also modulates the higher scattering vector part of the si (s) curve. It is believed that these correlations arise from the anisotropic interaction potential of the phenyl units.
Scattering patterns of mixtures of these two, then, could be either simple superposition (as appears to be the case with PMA) or synergistic interaction (as is the case with DBP). The scattering patterns are shown in Figure 12 with that of the pure PMMA at the bottom and the pure PCHMA at the top. > C B 12 16 20 24 2B Angle (2 8 ) Fig. 9. 42 X-ray scattering curves for alkyloxyethylene (bottom pair) and alkylthioethylene (top pair) methacrylate polymers. The number of carbon atoms in each alkyl group is indicated.

In the range that you're looking at, how would you answer the question that what you're basically looking at is the radial distribution function of the scattering from an amorphous system?
