By Samantha E. Bankston

This dissertation interrogates the concept that of turning into because it operates in an ontological
system of immanence. Our undertaking is to enquire turning into by itself phrases. we've
chosen Gilles Deleuze because the thinker of turning into par excellence, who asks how
becoming results the fastened constructions of representational inspiration. regardless of being the
driving strength of Deleuze?s philosophical venture, he by no means officially systematized his
concept of changing into. Reconstructing the conceptual background of changing into in Deleuze?s
philosophy permits us to caricature a differential, immanent ontology and its temporal and
causal approaches. From the outset, we find that Bergonian length and Nietzschean
eternal go back are re-appropriated in Deleuze?s proposal of changing into. opposite to his
critics, Deleuze doesn't evince dualist ontology. Remapping the temporal traces which
inform the process his writings, we find that Deleuze?s ontology is tripartite.
Absolute turning into, sensory turning into, and effectuated being give you the panorama
through which natural distinction is produced. Staging conceptual encounters among
Bergson, Nietzsche, Leibniz, Borges, Klossowski, and Proust permits us to formulate an
explicit inspiration of turning into from their implicit temporalities in Deleuze?s philosophy. In
the finish, we follow the hot proposal of changing into to Deleuze?s works, demonstrating that
his canon dramatizes the immanent ontology he theorizes.

I am not arguing that Deleuzian becoming is identical to Bergsonian duration, but merely that Deleuze‟s construction of becoming was heavily influenced by Bergsonian duration, specifically in what concerns becomings, or sensory becoming. For example, becoming does not consist of interpenetrating states of consciousness for Deleuze, but it reflects the continuous heterogeneity implicated in the virtual multiplicity of duration. Becoming is itself a multiplicity, masking a multiplicity of other becomings as they become other while they continue to be what they are.

The pluralism of becomings is only one piece of the ontological puzzle of becoming. The concept of becoming that bears the mark of Bergsonian duration, sensory becoming, replaces the traditional notion of substance as internal change. ”49 Becoming differentiates itself according to the same nonnumerical temporal logic of duration, changing in kind as it is divided. This temporality is serial and simultaneous, ordinal not cardinal; it works through a network of virtual coexistence. 50 How, then, do the processes of Deleuzian becoming reflect those of Bergsonian duration?

The continuity of Deleuze‟s concept of becoming, its logic as a multiplicity, means that neither sensory nor absolute becoming remains disengaged from the other. 57 This system forges lines between effectuated being, sensory becoming, and the primacy of absolute becoming. The primacy of this system of becoming entails the ontological forgetting enacted by the eternal return. Sensory becoming is the reality that makes itself within the reality of absolute becoming which unmakes it. It forms blocs of sensation in co-existence, which is a convergence in the virtual.
